Think again if you feel that you are not too familiar with Carole Kings music – I did, and was amazed at how many classic songs she had penned, initially with her husband, Gerry Goffin, and later, in her own right. Her story confirms that with true determination, which started at a young age, together with the belief that that you can inspire others to share your dream, the sky really is the limit.
The relationship that Carole and Gerry have with their fellow composers, Lorna Want and Barry Mann, shows a truly sincere respect for each other’s talents, both couples rivals, but working for the same music agent, and both chasing the coveted No 1 spot at the top of the music charts. They were rivals in business who became life-long friends in the process.
‘Beautiful’ follows Carole’s early belief in herself and determination to succeed, entwined with her personal life of being married to her fellow musical composer, and the issues that surfaced through their relationship, both professional and personal, and how they endeavoured to overcome them.
Cassidy Janson as Carole and Alan Morrisey as Gerry, play their characters to perfection, with Cynthia Weil (Lorna Want), and Ian McIntosh (Barry Mann), adding even more quality to the dynamics of the creative partners. This show will have you tapping your feet and humming the tunes, as you experience every composition from start to finish with them.
