Around the World in Eighty Days is an amazing novella written by Jules Verne. The story is about Phileas Fogg – a first class Victorian man, journeying around the world with his Parisian servant.
I believe the storyline is well written and one of the best I have read. I find it easy to relate to the servant Passepartout as he feels the need to travel, which I have always wanted to do. My favourite part of the whole book was when Fogg made his bet with his friends at the reform club as this started the story.
Although the novella is superb, the one thing I did find slightly less pleasant was the idea of Phileas Fogg being rigid and stiff as he sticks to tight schedules and calculates every little thing. I would definitely recommend this book from about year seven up as it could broaden vocabulary and expand one’s imagination.
It could also help people have a good understanding of well-written literature.
