This is my first Jean Ure book and I probably will read more after The Kissing Game.
It tells the story of a boy Salvatore D’Amato (known by everyone as Sally Tomato) who starts secondary school. He has a crush on a pretty and popular girl called Lucy. All the boys fancy her but there is another girl, Harmony Hynde, who is a bit of a geek and in love with Sally.
That’s the least of his problems though – Sally has never had a kiss! We follow his personal quest and dreams to solve this dilemma all teenage boys have.
For a girl I did find it quite interesting finding out that this is what boys actually think. Mums might tell you that personality counts – but not if this book is anything to go by. The Kissing Game is really funny.
Jean Ure writes in real language; how boys and girls actually communicate with each other. The chapters begin with a funny poem about his love for Lucy, which made me cringe a bit – in the way that you don’t want to look but can’t stop yourself. For example: L is for lips So soft and juicy I long to kiss The lips of Lucy!
I would definitely recommend this book – but hide it from your mum!
