We all have a story to tell or a poem to sing. The problem is to find the voice to sing it,’ says Michael Morpurgo, chair judge of the Wicked Young Writers’ award. The competition, in its fourth year, is now open for entries. It was established to link the important messages of Wicked with a competition to inspire young people to use their writing to look at life a little differently.
The award, which is spearheaded by Morpurgo, recognises excellence in writing, encourages creativity and helps develop writing talent. The judges are looking for pieces of writing, either poetry or prose from young people between the ages of 5-25 in a range of categories.
A shortlist of the top 100 entries will be invited to a very special prize event at the Apollo Victoria Theatre and will each receive a copy of the annual Wicked Young Writers’ award anthology containing their story or poem. To enter the award and see easily accessible videos and resources featuring Michael Morpurgo and Wicked cast members offering inspiration and writing tips go to www.wickedyoungwriters.com.
