School history can be fascinating and Wisbech Grammar School is no exception. The main building, which was originally known as Harecroft House, was built for Alexander Peckover – who was to become Baron Lord Peckover of Wisbech – and the family donated the house and its extensive grounds to the fledgling Wisbech High School for Girls when it was established at the beginning of the twentieth century.
Now the school is set to welcome Alexander’s great grandson Antony Penrose, whose mother was the celebrated war photographer Lee Miller. Antony will tell her story through an audio visual presentation, making extensive use of Miller’s own words and images. It’s a real family affair, as Miller’s granddaughter, Ami Bouhassane narrates her words.
The presentation, which contains some images that may be disturbing, is not recommended for children under the age of 14. It takes place on Thursday, October 7, at 7.30pm in the school’s Russell Hall. Tickets cost £4 for adults and £2 for concessions are now on sale at the school.
So if you are in the area, get buying!
